What is SASCP

The South African Society of Crop Production (SASCP) was established in Pretoria in 1971 by DF Retief as President, SA Hulme as Vice President, PJ Möhr, E Strydom, PC Nel, and Council members EH Graven, J Grobler, EW Laubscher, AJ Pienaar, and E Wolff.

The Society’s mission is to promote crop production knowledge and science in the country, with an emphasis on execution, growth, and progress, as well as facilitation with related communities in South Africa.

The SASCP Council not only preserves and continues the formal annual meeting to promote the Society’s objectives, but it also promotes the general health of crop production as a field of study and profession.

The majority of SASCP members work on major crops such as maize, oil and protein seed, and small grains.

What is the SASCP Bursary

Every year, the SASCP awards bursaries to qualified students (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) studying Crop Production, such as Agronomy / Crop Science, at a recognized South African university.

Payment will only be made to the candidates’ educational institution’s student account.

SASCP Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

  • South African national.
  • Registered at a South African institution for a four-year or post-graduate degree (not a diploma).
  • At least a 60% average in the previous university academic year
  • Students majoring in subjects related to crop production in general, such as agronomy or crop science

How to Apply for the SASCP Bursary 2023

Fill out the SASCP Bursary Application Form 2022. pdf.

Clear copies of the following supporting documentation should be submitted with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is mandatory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • A certified copy of your identification document
  • a certified copy of your most recent academic transcript (Matric certificate or tertiary record)
  • Proof of tertiary enrollment for the 2022 academic year
  • Undergraduate students: a brief statement explaining why you want to study crop production.
  • Postgraduate students: research topic title and objectives
  • 2 letters of recommendation to back up your application
